Last month I decided to host a Sherlock battle cause I wanted to make and see new icons of this awesome show! Here are the battle results by me, john_scorpy, fouroux and tiptoetwirl. Thanks for participating!! :)

THIS IS BRILLIANT ♥ So much Sherlock goodness! All of you have such gorgeous results *___*
My faves from each maker are:

Wow, your colorings and texture use and TEXT PROWESS are insane!! I love all your purples and yellows especially, they're so vibrant and perfect. ♥



I'm in awe of what you did with the first cap - it was sooo difficult to use and you made it so colorful and then there's the brilliant text! Looove the text arrangement and font choices.
The Jim icon is ingenious, love the composition, and I have mad respect for anyone who can pull off this sort of slicing effect this well..
I loooove the subtly contrasted bw in the third icon, and the composition is awesome, all the parts fit seamlessly and I really dig the centered text!
The bg text is perfect in the last one and I'm gonna have to snag its alt cause I love that quote sooo much. Also, super pretty purples and light! :>

Gorgeous!! I love the dark grunge/vintage look in these icons, and all the clean negative space is gorgeous too *__* And I love the creative texture use in these :>



I love the lighting in the first one a lot, and the purple negative space looks so smooth and perfect ♥
The second one has really fantastic composition and I love the combination of a red monochrome Jim with BW Sherlock, and the grunge textures look awesome as well :)
The coloring in the 3rd one is amazing cause it's very vintage and also really warm and has depth. The browns are so pretty!!
And the looking glass one is just really amazing and flawless, I looove the choice of stock for him cause it's original and 100% fitting!

The stag night one!! I love it :D The antlers are such an imaginative fun thing to use, love the idea, hee. Also the warm vibrant yellow/orange is perfect.
And the second one is so beautifully contrasted and has the perfect dark vibrant look. So much love for the texture use!
The third one is so gorgeous in its simplicity, and I love that you chose a different crop from the rest of us :D and you did a masterful job of transforming the background, wow, it looks 100% natural and I have no idea how you managed to keep some of the things in the bg yet get rid of all the cars and buildings and such?? gorgeous!
The silhouette icon is superb as well, I love the interesting background and how I see more details the more I look at it, and I love how you used the circle to direct attention to the silhouette!

INCREDIBLE ICONS ALL OF YOU, THIS POST MAKES ME SQUEE CAUSE IT'S SO RARE TO SEE SHERLOCK ICONS ANYMORE BUT NOW THERE'S ALL OF THIS AND IT'S AMAZING. ♥

idk how I came up with the stag night icon. I only remember it took me forever to come up with something and at some point I was so frustrated I just stepped out of my comfort zone and tried whatever. THEN THIS HAPPENED. and wow, so glad you like the jim one. tysm for your kind words :)

OMG these are all amazing!! I love the icons and seeing each cap used in such different ways. john_scorpy says it perfectly, much better than I ever could, so I'm going to "me too!!" that comment instead of explaining why I love each and every icon.

And it's so nice to see some Sherlock too!!

It was fantastic!! I am hopelessly untalented when it comes to making icons (I have no "eye" for layout or cropping, coloring, etc) but I know what looks good. I'm a total icon fangirl (yup, I stalk your icons too lol).

Nooo, don't call yourself untalented! I think it's much more about practise than 'natural talent' anyway, you should see my first icons, they are hilariously awful :D anyway it's awesome to come across an 'icon fangirl', icons are such a weird obscure thing to have as a hobby so it's nice to know it's appreciated, so thanks! ♥

I'm the only icon fangirl I know lol but if you think about it, icon making takes skills. You only have a canvas of 100x100, which really limits things. Weird story, but I actually found LJ through icons....back in 2002 *cue to flashbacks in black and white* we went from dial-up (gasp!!!) to high speed internet and suddenly that opened up my world. I was googling pictures and found a ton of icons from a place called LiveJournal. I ended up joining and found fandoms and people like me, who fangirled. I have made (and shuttered) various websites over the years and have had an ongoing struggle with graphics. My icons went from "omg if anyone ever sees these I will hide under a rock forever" to merely kind of crap. I was doing a lot of icontests for a while to practice, and won a couple (lucky breaks), but eventually I let the masters take over the craft and now I just stalk you all. I find that icon searching is very lovely and relaxing for me. Yes, I am a weirdo :P But you do have fans ♥

Photobucket is such a pain sometimes, I've kind of hated it ever since they changed it so that you need to view the entire photobucket page if you just follow a link to a graphic hosted there. And it takes forever to load. I've considered switching for imgur but probably won't cause it would take effort and all :p

also I'm super glad you picked that icon, I really enjoyed making it!

Thanks so much!! That Jim cap was super difficult to color because of the lighting (shadows on his face and bright highlights elsewhere), so I'm definitely happy to hear the result works for you!! :3 and I had so much fun with the text in the lyrics one so thanks for that pick too :>
